TEDxBeijing was hosted by Alesca Life at the first TEDxBeijing Adventure on October 25th, bringing the TEDx community a fabulous urban farming experience! The team was joined by about 30 of our partners and other members of the TEDxBeijing community on our visit to see one of Alesca Life’s shipping container farms. We were graced with beautiful fall weather as we discussed the shipping container and learned about the current state of food production. We even got to “plant” some of the seedlings ourselves! Not only was the unit beautiful, it produces fresh, delicious vegetables using just 5% of the water that traditional farming uses and just 1% of the land. Their operations are completely pesticide and herbicide free, GMO free and use no chemical additives.
We had the luck of sampling their latest crop of wasabi arugula, which was full of delicious flavor! Co-Founder Stuart Oda said, “Alesca Life is creating technology allows anywhere anyone to produce food by empowering them with information access and automation.” The company is indeed revolutionizing the way food is grown and consumed by minimizing the negative impacts of farming. As the demand the growing population puts on the earth increases, companies like Alesca Life are critical to help us find ways to curb food waste and reduce the carbon footprint of growing and transporting all while growing more nutritious, safe, and wonderfully delicious food.
