Dr. Nathan Congdon
Professor of Ophthalmology at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Senior Advisor for ORBIS International, Professor at Queen’s University Belfast
Nathan began to study Chinese in high school in 1978, and first came to China in 1983. He fell in love with the language and culture, and after studying Chinese formally in the US and UK for a total of 10 years, he attended medical school in the US with the idea of living in China as a doctor. He returned to China with his family in 2006 and became a professor of preventive ophthalmology at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, China’s largest eye hospital, while also working with Orbis Internationalon projects to improve eye care in rural parts of China.
